Work Plan and Milestone

The entire duration of the project is 5 years
(January 2015 – December 2019
).


Year 1: 2015

1. PhD student‟s enrolment
2. Optimization of in vitro functional assays (GIA and ADRB) using blood draw protocol samples
3. Training of PhD1 and PhD4 in the GIA assay.


Year 2: 2016

1. Initiate a LCS involving 1000 children at Danfa/Pantang
2. Collection of clinical data and samples (blood, stool and urine)
3. Optimization of ADCI and training of PhD1 and PhD4 in ADCI assay
4. Training of PhD students in genotyping techniques
5. Training of PhD3 in the R-Statistical software and various R packages
6. Quantification of IgG and IgG subclass levels against selected Pf antigens in GMZ2 phase 2b clinical trial samples
7. ADCI and GIA for GMZ2 phase 2b clinical trial samples
8. ADRB using neutrophils from blood draw protocol having defined genotypic markers


Year 3: 2017

1. Genotyping of host gene polymorphisms in both LCS and GMZ2 trial samples
2. Parasite genetic analyses in LCS
3.
Quantification of IgG and IgG subclass levels against selected Pf antigens in LCS samples
4.
ADCI and GIA for LCS samples
5.
Model development and testing: age specific risk of malaria and evaluation of relative components of risk contributing factors in malaria


Year 4: 2018

1. Statistical analysis of serological and genetics data exploring how different genotypes modify the antibody effect on risk of malaria in both LCS and GMZ2 trial samples
2.
Statistical analysis of parasite genetic markers of virulence and identification of virulence evolution factors
3.
Models for defining age specific risk of malaria and development of internet (and smartphone app) based risk calculator and estimating of relative components of risk contributing factors in malaria; 4) Writing of PhD thesis and submission


Year 5: 2019

1. Manuscripts preparation and submissions
2.
Project evaluation meeting
3.
Preparation and submission of policy brief
